Custom Fit Options

Our original cut has specifications similar to the 1960's Brooks Brothers Traditional Fit. We do offer several custom tailoring options that modify our original cut.

Here are our fit options:

    • Custom Body/Collar - Pair your desired collar size with a body size smaller than the collar, e.g., pairing a 16 collar with a 15 ½ body. We can also pair your desired collar size with a body size two sizes smaller, e.g., 16 collar with a 15 body, or three sizes smaller, e.g., 16 collar with a 14 ½ body.

Each smaller body size reduces the chest and waist by 2" and the shoulder by ½.” Caveat: The body's shoulder/yoke width must meet your minimum shoulder requirement, or the shirt will be too small and not wearable. Make sure you measure your shoulder/yoke.
    • Waist Taper - Add a 2", 4" or 6" taper at the side seam. The waist taper reduces at the waist only. A 2" taper will take out 1" at each side seam, 4" taper takes out 2" at each side seam and a 6" taper takes out 3" at each side seam. This option removes extra fabric below the waist and reduces the waist slightly. The chest size is not reduced.

    Option #1 and #2 can be combined in one shirt, e.g., 15 body x 35 sleeve with 2" taper; 15 ½ collar.

Custom charges apply. All custom shirts are final sale.

We prefer the traditional, original fit and style.

     MERCER SIZE SPECIFICATIONS

    How to Measure:

    Your collar/neck size:

Measure around your neck just above your collarbone, putting one finger between the tape and your neck. Or measure your neck and add 1/4 inch. Round up to the closest ½ inch size.

OR grab a washed and worn shirt that fits properly, lay collar flat - measure inside from collar button to 1/8” from the buttonhole's far end (see drawing below).

    Your sleeve length:

Your arm must be at your side and slightly bent at the elbow. Here is where it is best to have a friend at hand. Place the end of the tape measure at the middle of the back of your neck; go across the shoulder and down the outside of your arm, bent slightly, to just below the wrist bone.

OR (this may be easier), grab a washed and worn shirt that fits properly. Measure at the middle of the back of the shirt, across the shoulder, and down the length of the sleeve entirely (see drawings below).

Measurement A: First, measure from middle of back of neck across shoulder to end of yoke seam.

Measurement B: Next, continue measuring from yoke seam down sleeve to end of cuff. Do not stretch, but extend fully.

    Measurement A + B = sleeve length

    Your shoulder width/yoke:

Measure from the point where the yoke meets the sleeve, straight across to the end of the yoke, where it meets the sleeve on the other side. Do not stretch, but extend fully.

    Laundering Instructions:

When you receive your shirt, please try it on for fit. If your shirt fits perfectly out of the box, launder it in cold water and dry it to prevent shrinkage. Commercial laundries will use cold water upon request. We can adjust your sizing in any future orders. Always unbutton all buttons before washing/drying, especially your button-down collars.

If the shirt seems a little big, remember we allow for normal shrinkage (about ½” in the collar and 1” in the sleeves). Running our shirts through hot water and a tumble dry cycle 2-3 times (or the commercial laundry) will ensure proper size. Most shrinkage will occur with these initial launderings.

DO NOT dry clean our shirts. Commercial launder if need be.

Please DO NOT wash/wear your shirt(s) if you wish to return or exchange.
    Custom shirts are final sale.
